Self-Portrait
By Izak R. Crafford

Brief conspiracy of dynasties of circumstance,

I am created by those who’ve lived and died

and those who yet do live

in my turn to create and then to die –

I exist: one of a myriad little spiders in the silken web of being.

A Note from the Author:

"This poem is really quite simple. It was inspired by "In a station of the Metro", at least as far as its brevity goes and forms part of a collection of poems I am currently working at called "Portraits of people". The entire poem is based on the image revealed in the final line. The web of being is my putting into words of a beautiful image created by Dr Antony Goedhals to describe how our interactions are very complex. The self too, if one thinks about it, is a knot in a web of being, created by the gathering together of countless influences and, in its turn, influencing others."
