Priest of the Mountain Gods
By Izak R. Crafford

Iron chains bind him and a blade is held poised to stab into his heart
For the slightest misjudged word in his timid prayers
To New Olympus’s mountain gods. They know not his name and they do not care, but he knows all of theirs
And declares his love as they tear him apart.

A Note from the Author:

"This poem is my attempt to put into words my observation of the pain that obedience to the isms can cause. The person described is extremely dear to me and I know that he seeks to do the right thing. It breaks my heart to see the pain he experiences, the doubt and the terrible uncertainty brought on by questioning everything, taking nothing at face value and having to correct everything, often times by destruction. One could perhaps call this poem a lament; it is a lament written out of love." - Izak R. Crafford
